SELLING YOUR BIKE TO US

MOTORBIKE COLLECTION INSTRUCTIONS

1. Agreeing the Price & Holding Deposit

Once we agree on a price for your bike, that's the price we pay.

There is no haggling on collection, no last minute negotiations and no time wasting. The agreed price is the price you will receive, less the £100 holding deposit already paid to you.

Once the price has been agreed, we will pay you a £100 holding deposit to secure the bike prior to collection.

As we purchase motorcycles from sellers throughout the UK and arrange transport specifically for each collection, the deposit gives us the confidence to book collection knowing there is a genuine commitment from both sides to complete the sale.

Once you have received the £100 holding deposit, we kindly ask that you remove your advert or change its status to "Pending" while we arrange collection. This prevents further enquiries and ensures the bike isn't sold to another buyer in the meantime.

2. Booking Your Collection

We'll ask you to provide your collection address and mobile number so we can add your details to our collection portal and arrange transport.

Collection is undertaken by Move Motorcycles, the UK's leading motorcycle transport specialists. With experienced drivers and a team dedicated exclusively to motorcycle transportation, they provide a safe, reliable and professional collection and delivery service backed by hundreds of 5 star customer reviews.

Collection will usually take place within 5–7 days of the bike being booked in.

Unfortunately, we're unable to provide an exact collection day at the time of booking, as routes are planned around multiple motorcycle collections and deliveries throughout the UK.

If there are particular days, times or commitments that affect your availability, please let us know as early as possible. We'll pass this information to the transport planners so they can do their best to work around your availability.

3. Collection Confirmation

The evening before collection, you will receive a text message confirming that your motorcycle is scheduled to be collected the following day.

This message will also include the driver's name and mobile number.

Confirmation will usually arrive during the late afternoon or evening, once the following day's route has been finalised.

4. Confirm You've Received the Message

Once you receive your collection confirmation, please send us a quick message to let us know you've received it.

This allows us to make sure you're aware of the collection and that everything is ready for the following day.

5. On the Day of Collection

On the day of collection, the driver will call or text you with an estimated arrival time, usually around 30–60 minutes before arriving.

If your confirmation message from the previous evening doesn't specify whether collection is expected during the morning or afternoon, you're welcome to contact the driver after 9:00am on the day of collection for an update.

Drivers receive their designated routes on the morning of collection, so unfortunately they won't be able to provide an accurate estimated arrival time before then.

6. Receiving Your Payment

When the driver arrives, they will confirm with us that the motorcycle is present and ready for collection.

We will then immediately transfer the remaining balance directly to you.

You do not release the motorcycle until the funds have been received and cleared in your account.

7. Mileage & V5C Confirmation

Once the funds have cleared, which is usually instant, we'll ask you to send us the following via WhatsApp:

  • A photograph of the motorcycle's dashboard showing the exact current mileage

  • A photograph of the front page of the V5C logbook

This allows us to complete the final paperwork and DVLA notification.

8. DVLA Notification

Before the driver leaves with your motorcycle, we will complete the DVLA notification online, confirming that the motorcycle has been sold to a motor trader.

If you provide us with your email address, we can include this when completing the DVLA notification so that you receive confirmation of the change.

This will confirm that:

  • The motorcycle has been sold to a motor trader

  • You are no longer responsible for the vehicle

  • Where applicable, any remaining eligible road tax refund will be processed by the DVLA

If the motorcycle is currently SORN, there is nothing further you need to do regarding road tax.

If you pay your road tax by monthly Direct Debit, the DVLA should cancel the Direct Debit following notification of the sale. You may also wish to check your bank account afterwards to ensure no further payments are taken.

9. Preparing the Bike for Collection

Once payment has cleared, the DVLA notification has been completed and you're ready to release the motorcycle, please:

  • Leave one key in the ignition

  • Place the spare key and V5C logbook into a secure plastic bag

  • Include any service books, owner's manuals, receipts, service history, paperwork and other documents relating to the motorcycle

  • Hand the bag containing the documents and spare key directly to the driver

If you're supplying any additional or original parts with the motorcycle such as an exhaust, tail tidy, windscreen or other accessories, please place these securely in a box wherever possible so they can be transported safely with the bike.

That's It – Your Bike Is Sold

Our aim is to make the entire process straightforward, secure and stress free, with clear communication from the moment we agree a price until your motorcycle has been collected.

No haggling. No last-minute negotiations. No hidden surprises.

We agree a price. We pay a deposit. We arrange collection. You get paid.

If anything is unclear or you have any questions about the collection process, please don't hesitate to contact us.
